When a switch makes sense
It may be a good idea to switch driving schools if the organisation, communication or teaching methods are consistently unsuitable for your situation. You don't need to give us a reason.
It's not getting anywhere
No appointments for weeks on end, repeated cancellations – and the test is still nowhere in sight. This is a common reason for changing driving schools.

As a general rule, we only accept as many learner drivers as our team can reliably supervise. Depending on our current workload, there may be a waiting period even if you switch driving schools. During your consultation, we’ll tell you exactly when you can continue your training with us.

Theory not yet completed
The topics you’ve covered are listed on your training certificate and are therefore marked as completed – you won’t have to start from scratch. You can catch up on any missing topics with us, Monday to Friday from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Theory test already passed
The test remains valid; it is not tied to the driving school. But the clock keeps ticking: The practical test must take place within twelve months of passing the theory test (Section 18(2) of the FeV). Let us know the test date, and we’ll plan accordingly.
Practical training is already under way
You do not need to repeat any documented special training drives.
Failed the exam or moved house
A change of driving school is also possible in that case.

Have your transfer checked
Let us know which course you’re on, how far you’ve got, and what documents you have. You can do this by phone, using the form below, or by visiting a branch without an appointment.
Obtain your training record
If you change driving schools, your previous driving school must record the parts of the course you have completed in the Proof of training (§ 6(2) Fahrschüler-Ausbildungsordnung, the German learner driver training regulation).
Handing over the training record and terminating your previous training contract are separate topics: notice periods and outstanding payments depend on your previous contract.

New training contract – we will then arrange the re-registration required under TÜV Hessen and let you know if, in your case, the driving licence authority also needs to be involved.

Visited Theory lessons · documented Special services (Rural road, motorway, night) · a passed theory test · a completed Manual transmission training for B197, once the certificate is available.
Documented training parts are taken into account for the continuation. You do not need to repeat completed theory topics and recorded special drives as mandatory content solely due to changing driving schools. Prerequisites are a complete training record and compliance with the deadlines applicable for the tests.
We are taking a fresh look at that.
Your practical training level – and not out of mistrust, but because it's a regulation: your new driving instructor may only complete the practical training when the training objectives have been met and test readiness has been achieved (§ 6(1) FahrschAusbO).
Regular lessons are therefore not credits that transfer one-to-one. The record shows your experience – how much more practice is useful will be shown by the first drive together.
Two deadlines that really matter
Two years – the confirmed completion of theoretical Training must not date back more than two years for the theory test (§ 16 para. 3 FeV). Before the practical test, a corresponding up-to-date confirmed completion of the practical We will check which dates are recorded in your training record when you switch.
Twelve months – that is how long your passed theory test is valid (§ 18 para. 2 FeV). This period continues to run during the transfer.

How much the switch costs
When you switch to us, the registration fee of €250 applies – it is the one-off fee for registering with FAHRPLAN, due when you sign up with us.
The only additional costs are what you actually still need from the switch onwards: further driving lessons, missing special training drives, learning material, test fees. Pricing page.
What is happening with your money at the old driving school
This depends on the terms of your contract with them – we have no control over that. Please sort out any outstanding payments and potential refunds directly with your previous driving school. Any compulsory modules that have been documented and already completed will be taken into account when you switch. With FAHRPLAN, you pay the basic registration fee and only for the services we actually provide from the point of transfer onwards.

You can continue your training at a different driving school at any stage – you don't need a reason or permission for this. Separate from this are your contractual obligations with your previous driving school. Notice periods and services already paid for depend on your contract there.
Above all the Proof of training from your current driving school – this includes your theory lessons, practical lessons and special driving sessions. Also include your driving licence. For B197, you’ll also need the certificate for manual gearbox training, if you’ve already completed it.
To change driving schools, you need the training record from your previous driving school. How and when your previous training contract ends depends on its cancellation rules. Therefore, please consult us before giving notice if possible.

Yes, provided they are entered in the training record. Cross-country, motorway and night drives are shown individually and will be taken into account when you continue. You do not have to complete them again as mandatory drives simply because of the change.
That cannot be reliably predicted in advance. Your new driving instructor may only complete the practical training once the training objectives have been met and you are ready for the test. After your first drive together, you will get an honest assessment.
Yes, it's not tied to the driving school. But pay attention to the deadline: the practical test must be taken within twelve months of passing the theory test (§ 18 para. 2 FeV). This deadline continues to run during the transfer.
When moving house, an additional update at the driving licence office or test centre may be necessary. This depends, among other things, on your main place of residence and the existing test application. Bring your documents with you so that we can check the specific procedure.
